Who We Are

End Abortion Ohio is a distinctively Christian organization that is committed to working toward the legal abolition of abortion in Ohio.

Distinctively Christian

Unfortunately, much of the modern pro-life movement takes a secular approach to fighting abortion. Not so with End Abortion Ohio. We endeavor to think and act Biblically on abortion. This means that our beliefs, message, and approach are distinctively shaped and grounded by scripture. Our beliefs are aligned with God’s holy word. Our message is the message of God as revealed in the scriptures. Our approach is not based on pragmatism or in man’s wisdom, but on the wisdom and will of God.

As a Christian organization, we reason with the Bible. We faithfully proclaim the message of God in the Scriptures and entrust our witness to God. We do this because we believe that the Spirit of God works through the word of God to bring the nations to the obedience of the faith. Only the word of God can truly change the heart. Paul calls it the “sword of the Spirit.”

In addition, we believe that only the Gospel can address the foundational issue of abortion; sin. The only remedy for sin is the Gospel. Jesus, the eternal Son of God, became the son of man, in order to make atonement for sin and to give eternal life. On the cross, Christ Jesus died a sacrificial death where he bore in his body the sins of the world and took onto himself the wrath of God that was reserved for us. In his resurrection, he makes new and eternal life available. When we repent and believe in Christ, our sin is atoned for, God’s wrath against us is removed, and we are given new and eternal life. A secular approach to abortion cannot address the problem of sin. It is impotent to save. Only the Gospel can.

Abolition: The Christian Response to Abortion

As a distinctively Christian organization, we advocate for legislation that is consistent with the Biblical standards of justice, morality, and righteousness. We believe that bills which regulate murder and do not abolish it are dishonoring to God, and unloving to our preborn neighbor. The word of God commands that we ought not to show partiality in judgment, and bills that regulate who is murdered and how one is murdered show partiality. In addition, bills that exempt guilty parties from prosecution are unjust and give implicit legal permissibility to abortion. Thus, we advocate for the total and immediate abolition of abortion, without compromise and without exception. We are bound by the word of God to do so. Although we understand that many Christians support pro-life legislation from a place of genuine commitment to life, and with sincere intentions, the Bible says that such legislation is immoral, and our aim is to help the Church in fighting abortion to come into greater alignment with the word of God. We aim to do this graciously, engaging in love, and walking in step with the Spirit, while at the same, maintaining a clear commitment to the truth of God’s word.

For many years, one of the traditional justifications of incremental legislation was that Roe v. Wade curbed the ability to secure legal abolition. However, it should be noted that Roe v. Wade is no longer in play. In Ohio, which features a state congress that boasts a supermajority of Republicans who are self-proclaimed pro-life legislators, there is no excuse to support legislation that upholds the legal permissibility of abortion.

Legislatively Focused

As Christians, we believe that our governing authorities are instituted by God, and have been granted authority to carry out His will. They are God’s servants “for your good” (Romans 13:4). They have been entrusted with the power of the sword to carry out “God’s wrath on the wrongdoer” (Romans 13:7). They are “to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good” (1 Peter 2:14). To carry out God’s demands of righteousness and justice is the proper purpose and sphere of government. Thus we believe it is the God-given duty and responsibility of our civil government to abolish abortion. Therefore, we are committed to exhorting our civil government to do just that. We work with the legislators to impress upon them the necessity to abolish abortion and to provide aid, direction, resources and encouragement to do so.

Rooted in the Church

The Scriptures say that to “love your neighbor as yourself” is the second greatest commandment (Matt 23:39), the sum of the commandments and “the fulfilling of the law” (Rom 13:8–10). The Scriptures have a very clear notion of moral obligation —the idea that we as human persons have a commitment to one another. We are inescapably accountable for one another. The question, “am I my brother’s keeper?” (Gen 4:9; Jas 5:4–20) is continually affirmed as “yes” throughout Scripture. Integral to this notion of moral obligation is our responsibility to intercede on behalf of the needy, the weak, and the oppressed (Isa 58:6–10). Furthermore, we violate our moral obligation to the “least of these” when we fail to intercede on their behalf. The Scriptures condemn and abhor tolerance of the perpetuation of injustice. This is to say that God condemns and abhors apathy to injustice. Tolerance, or apathy, is the abdication of moral obligation. It is compliance with evil.

We believe that God’s people have an obligation, a divine command to love their preborn neighbor by seeking to establish justice for them. The church, when faithful to this command, has the potential to make a significant impact towards the abolition of abortion. When we survey the religious landscape of Ohio, this becomes abundantly clear for our context. In addition to legislation, our aim is to come alongside pastors and churches in helping them to recognize the imperative to love our preborn neighbors, and to equip and encourage them to do so. We in no way seek to overstep the bounds of pastors in their shepherding ministry. In the words of our founder, Austin Beigel, we “want the pleas for the preborn to come straight from the mouths of pastors and their flocks.”

Our Story

The story of End Abortion Ohio is the story of God’s providential working in the lives of his people. In recent years, God has raised up several men and their families devoted to the word of God and to the cause of abolition. God has convicted these men through his Word and by His Spirit of the need for abolition and burdened their hearts with the cause of the preborn. Providentially, God brought several of these men together in 2022 and united them with a single vision for Ohio: the complete and total abolition of abortion for the glory of God. After seeing a desperate need for a distinctively Christian and hence abolitionist organization, End Abortion Ohio was founded in early 2023. These men, convicted by the word of God, and panged in conscience for the preborn cannot and will not leave the work until the great evil of abortion is condemned to the dark pages of Ohio’s history. Our prayer is that our God would continue to raise up a manifold number of such men and women.
