After Issue 1: The Way Forward
On November 7th, the people of Ohio voted to enshrine the right to abortion (through all nine months) in the state Constitution. Issue 1 passed with 57% in favor of the amendment and 43% against the amendment. 2,227,384 Ohioans voted for Constitutionally protected preborn child murder. Ohioans have set themselves in flagrant, open rebellion against God. They have done this without shame. Woe to you, Ohio! One wonders if it will be more tolerable on the Day of Judgment for Sodom than for the Buckeye State.
The reader may be asking, “Isn’t the fight over now? There’s nothing more that can be done, right?” No, the fight isn’t over. There is a way forward, and that way forward is equal protection. This is crucial for the Church to understand. Below you will find our Press Release that we sent out on the night of November 7th. This Press Release uses strong language; but proper language. It responds correctly to the atrocity and abomination of Issue 1. Here it is:
The passing of Issue 1 is a dark stain on Ohio’s history. The installation of preborn child murder as a fundamental right in our state is an unconstitutional perversion, and a moral abomination before Almighty God, the Sovereign King of Kings, and Lawgiver. By transgressing God’s eternal and binding decree, “Do not murder,” Issue 1 is an iniquitous, and ruinous amendment which will bring more bloodguilt upon our state.
End Abortion Ohio will continue to strive for the accomplishment of our goal: the legal abolition of abortion in Ohio. As Issue 1 stands in clear, and flagrant violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution, Issue 1 ought to be ignored, and regarded as null and void. We call upon our governing authorities to treat Issue 1 as such, to fulfill their duty, to protect the inalienable right to life and to provide the equal protection of the law to all human beings, both born and preborn. Any recourse which tolerates or upholds the legal murder of preborn image bearers of God, must be rejected, and spurned as unconstitutional and iniquitous.
We call upon the Governor of Ohio to treat Issue 1 as null and void, to issue an executive order per the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article 1, Section 1 of the Ohio Constitution directing all agencies under his command to treat preborn human beings as people who must be provided the equal protection of the law.
We call upon Ohio’s Courts to treat Issue 1 as null and void, to rightly interpret and apply the Ohio and U.S. Constitutions by ruling that preborn human beings are persons and that preborn human beings must be provided the equal protection of the law.
We call upon Ohio’s legislators to treat Issue 1 as null and void, and to introduce and pass the Abolition of Abortion in Ohio Act, which would bring Ohio’s abortion law into alignment with the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution, by applying the law equally to all persons, born and preborn.
The securing of justice for all persons is the duty of all our governing authorities, before God, and before our state. End Abortion Ohio will not cease to tirelessly strive towards this righteous end.
We’re not giving up. We’re not giving up, because the Word of God commands us to love our preborn neighbors. We are driven by the Word of God to see justice established; even against great odds, and against great opposition. For who is with us? Is it not the LORD God, the Creator and Ruler of all things? It is He who is with us.
The path forward we describe is equal protection. An appeal to the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment can, not just undo the grievous error of Issue 1, but actually abolish abortion in Ohio. The reason that it can do that is because it appeals to a higher law; a law that supersedes our state constitution. Our pastors need to understand this; our churches need to be taught this; our legislators need to be continually confronted with this, and exhorted to do what is right. We need to rally people around Equal Protection. This is our way forward; this is our solution.
This response is really a response of repentance. We need to stop doing things our way; we need to forsake worldly and pragmatic means that ignore God’s commandments. We need to turn back to the Scriptures and do things God’s way. This is what End Abortion Ohio is really about, and this is what abolition is really about. This is where you, the reader, come in. We need you to share this solution with your pastor, your church connections, and your legislators. Entreat. Entreat. Entreat. And when you feel like you’ve exhausted all your words, entreat some more! This work must be done for the preborn are being slaughtered. The blood is flowing. We need to love our preborn neighbors well by seeking to establish justice for them. Do everything you can for the preborn, and leave the results in the hands of our Sovereign God.
